We are the University of Utah's chapter of Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honor society that distinguishes scholarship and exemplary character among students in engineering.

TBP Officer Meetings

Every Monday | 5:30 pm | Warnock Tutoring Center

Meetings are open for anyone with questions, concerns, or input about TBP. If any of you are thinking about becoming an officer for 2009-2010, please plan on coming to one or more meetings before elections so that you can gain a feeling for normal discussions, planning, and delegation.

Fish Blitz, Elementary Engineering Week

April 13-17

Help elementary kids create fast and slow fish to race in tanks of water while teaching them about engineering. This annual volunteer project is a blast - if you have never done this, don’t miss this opportunity. Each shift is only half an hour and we will need to have at least 5 volunteers for each spot. We would like people to start signing up for shifts so that we can make sure all times are covered. If you are able to volunteer, please follow the link below to sign up:

Spring Initiation Ceremony, Banquet, & Officer Election

April 25

We will be holding our Spring Initiation Ceremony in the early afternoon. All existing members are welcome to help with or attend the ceremony. If you would like to become an officer for 2009-2010, you are highly encouraged to become involved.

Following our initiation ceremony, we will be handling some chapter business such as voting on bylaw changes and conducting elections for new officers.

Finally, current members, guests, and local alumni will be given the opportunity to celebrate new members, socialize with each other, and enjoy our Spring Banquet dinner while we give out some of the awards and prizes to our most outstanding members. The cost of members’ meals will be covered by the chapter and a fee of $20 will be needed for each guest.

Updates with the Chapter Point System

The new point system for members has been implemented. Read about it on the new members page, where you can also check your current standing.

Ordering Graduation Stoles

If you would like to be honored for your chapter participation at the 2009 graduation commencement and convocation ceremonies by wearing a Tau Beta Pi stole, we need to know soon. We have quite a few on hand to lend, but expect that we will need to order many more. If you would like to reserve one to borrow or purchase a stole through our chapter for $18, please send us an email no later than April 1 so that we can put together an order.

Resume CDs

Both as a service to our members and a way to raise some funds for our chapter, we will be putting together resume CDs to sell to interested TBP alumni employers. If any of you are seeking full/part time employment or internships, this would be a good opportunity to help our chapter out and easily get your resume distributed. If you’d like to have yours included, please send your resume to tbp.utah.alpha@gmail.com along a sentence or two describing your major, expected graduation date, and what type of employment you’re looking for.

Success of Meet an Inventor Day 2009

With a great deal of help from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and University of Utah Colleges of Engineering and Mines & Earth Sciences, this new event was a great success. We want to extend our appreciation to everyone who took the time to become involved – especially the overwhelming support we received from Tau Beta Pi volunteers. We’re certainly proud of the recognition our chapter and university received on Fox 13 News, News 4 Utah (ABC), in the Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News, and the Utah Daily Chronicle. If you didn’t get a chance to participate this year, don’t worry… we have already made arrangements to make sure Meet an Inventor Day happens again in 2010.
